Xavier Concert Choir to Perform for Ohio Music Educators

One of four collegiate choirs chosen | January 23, 2008

The Xavier University Concert Choir is one of four collegiate choirs selected to perform at the annual conference of the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA). The choir will perform at 9:30 am on Friday, February 8 in the Grand Ballroom of the Cincinnati Hyatt Hotel. The concert will be attended by music educators and students from Ohio.

Thomas Merrill, Ph.D., director of the Concert Choir and chair of the Xavier University Music Department, will conduct the performance. The program will feature works by J.S. Bach, Dan Forrest, Stephen Paulus and Raymond Schroyens. Matthew Phelps, adjunct faculty member, will accompany the choir.

“It is an honor to be selected by a panel of my peers for this performance,” says Merrill. “It is a tribute to the work ethic of the students, and clearly demonstrates the growing abilities of our department.”

The choir includes students from all three colleges of the university. Only a third of the members are music majors. In May of 2008, the Xavier University Concert Choir will join forces with the Cincinnati Ballet in performances of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
