South Asian Society stages second intercollegiate dance festival, Midwest Masala
Event combines aspects of traditional Eastern, modern Western dance styles, including Bhangra, hip-hop, Raas, Latin dance and more | April 5, 2007
The University's South Asian Society is staging the intercollegiate dance festival and competition, Midwest Masala, on Saturday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Cintas Center arena. The event combines aspects of traditional Eastern and modern Western dance styles, including Bhangra, hip-hop, Raas, Latin dance, classical, R&B and more. This year’s list of participating schools includes the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Miami University, the University of Cincinnati, Indiana University, Johns Hopkins University and Xavier.
A dinner of traditional Indian food is included at 6:00 p.m.
The South Asian Society is donating all proceeds from the event to the Saraswati Secondary School Fund in Nepal.
The South Asian Society started in the fall of 2003 and serves as a portal to connect the Xavier community to South Asian heritage. With the club's popularity growing each year, the society has sponsored a number of events and fundraisers, and celebrated the beautiful cultures of the South Asian region.
