Concert choir and chamber vocal ensemble join Sycamore High School and Cincinnati Baroque Orchestra in March 18 event | March 5, 2007

The Xavier University Concert Choir and Chamber Vocal Ensemble are partnering with the Sycamore High School Chamber Choir and the Cincinnati Baroque Orchestra to host a choral festival on Sunday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, 5950 Montgomery Road in Cincinnati. Tickets are $5 for students/ senior citizens and $15 for regular admission. Tickets are available for purchase at the door on the night of this event.

The Xavier choirs are collaborating with Sycamore High School to continue a tradition of teaming up with high schools to host musical events. Xavier alum, Dawn Stone, is director of Sycamore’s chamber choir.

This year’s festival features the music of Mozart. The Cincinnati Baroque Orchestra is also performing a double concerto for oboe and violin by J. S. Bach. Director for choral activities and assistant professor of music Thomas Merrill is conducting the Bach and Mozart selections. Stone is conducting the Sycamore Chamber Choir in three selections.

The goal of this event is to mark the anniversary of Mozart’s birth, which is actually in January.

“It’s a little late for the anniversary of Mozart’s birth, but it is never too late to celebrate his life’s work," Merrill says. "This is a wonderful time to have an artistic representation of Mozart’s work for Xavier and the community.”
