The University is kicking off the holiday season with "A Xavier Christmas" on Monday, Dec. 4. An evening of events is planned to get everyone into the holiday spirit, including the lighting of luminaries at 5:00 p.m., a tree lighting at approximately 5:45 p.m. and a gospel choir performance, and a live nativity scene from 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. All the events take place on the residential mall near Bellarmine Chapel.

One hundred local elementary school children are the special guests at the event. Hosted by Xavier Buddies, the children are attending the tree lighting and then going to the residential halls and the Commons for dinner and cookie decorating.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., Xavier students and their young guests are heading to the Gallagher Student Center to visit a Winter Wonderland. The children can visit with Santa, take part in a rock, scissors, paper tournament, play Christmas musical chairs and more. The activities wrap up around 8:00 p.m. Children from Hoffman, Burton, Parham and Norwoodview elementary schools are taking part.

In addition to the activities on the residential mall, students are collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items for the Freestore Foodbank. Donations can be dropped off anytime on Monday, Dec. 4, at the Gallagher Student Center.
