SGA sponsors 17th annual Fenwick Open Charity Golf Outing on Saturday, Sept. 30

Event takes place at Cincinnati's Pebble Creek Golf Course; benefits ALS Association | September 1, 2006

More than 100 members of the Xavier community are expected to attend the 17th annual Fenwick Open Charity Golf Outing sponsored by the student government association. Registration is still open for the event, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 30, at Cincinnati's Pebble Creek Golf Course. All proceeds benefit the ALS Association.

The outing begins with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Lunch from Subway and dinner from Outback Steakhouse are provided, as well as chances to buy raffle tickets, with prizes ranging from gift certificates for the Xavier bookstore to golf memorabilia.

All students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend, as well as all other interested members of the Cincinnati community. Alumni, faculty and staff pay $275 per foursome, or $75 for a single, while students receive a discounted rate of $120 per foursome, or $30 for a single. Corporate sponsorship packages are available to local businesses that wish to participate as well.

Last year’s Fenwick Open collected more than $5,000 for the American Cancer Society, and SGA administrative vice president and Fenwick co-chair Joe Moorman is optimistic about this year's success. “We hope to raise even more money this year," he says. "And hopefully more students will turn out, because this is really for them.”

The golf outing is the largest student-run charity event at Xavier and is named in honor of Cincinnati’s first Archbishop and founding father of the University, Fr. Edward Dominic Fenwick. For more information on how to sign-up, visit www.xavier.edu/sga. Registration deadline is Sept. 22.
