Department of music stages annual spring music festival on campus

Chamber ensembles, women's chorus, concert choir, chamber orchestra, symphonic wind ensemble to perform | April 26, 2006

The department of music is holding its annual spring music festival Wednesday, April 26, through Friday, April 28, at various locations on campus. All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. Admission for Xavier students, faculty and staff is $2 while all other tickets are $5.

Different departmental chamber groups are performing on Wednesday, April 26, in the Gallagher Student Center theater. The early music ensemble, under the direction of Chris Wilke, chamber music ensemble, coached by Brittany MacWilliams, and the vocal chamber ensemble, conducted by Tracey Brook and Tom Merrill feature a variety of 20th-century and Renaissance selections.

The chamber orchestra and the symphonic wind ensemble performs in the Gallagher Student Center theater on Thursday, April 27. The orchestra, conducted by Dale Swisher, includes faculty artist Dona Buel in a Mozart piano concerto. The symphonic wind ensemble, under the direction of Ron Montgomery, is performing an eclectic mix of early 20th-century music, including works by Karl King, Jack Stamp and others.

The newly formed women’s chorus, directed by Cara Tasher, is performing in Bellarmine Chapel on Friday, April 28, singing songs from around the world. Following the women’s chorus, the concert choir, under the direction of Tom Merrill, is performing an unpublished work by French Baroque composer, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, dedicated to St. Francis Xavier.
