The Xavier University Music Department will present its annual Spring Music Festival this week. All concerts are at 7:30 pm. Admission is $2.00 for Xavier students, faculty and staff. All other tickets are $5.00.
On Wednesday, April 26, various departmental chamber groups will perform in the Gallagher Center Theater. These include the Early Music Ensemble under the direction of Chris Wilke, the Chamber Music Ensemble, coached by Brittany MacWilliams, and the Vocal Chamber Ensemble, conducted by junior Tracey book and faculty member Tom Merrill.
Thursday, April 27 will feature the Chamber Orchestra and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble performing in the Gallagher Center Theater. The orchestra, conducted by Dale Swisher, will feature faculty artist Dona Buel in a Mozart Piano Concerto. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Ron Montgomery will perform works Karl King, Jack Stamp, Donald Huntsberger and others.
The newly-formed Women's Chorus, directed by Cara Tasher will perform on Friday evening in Bellarmine Chapel on the first half of the choral concert. They will sing songs from different continents. The second half will feature the Concert Choir under the direction of Tom Merrill. The choir will perform an unpublished work by French Baroque composer, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, dedicated to St. Xavier.
