I-O Students take on Management Consulting Project | November 2, 2005

Recently Drs. Mark Nagy and Morrie Mullins were approached by a Xavier I/O graduate who now owns his own local consulting firm. The task was to provide input on the soundness of two measures being used as part of a hiring process. Thinking this would be a good chance for students to get some hands-on experience, Dr. Mullins gave them the task of doing a thorough review of the literature.

According to the I/O Director, Dr. Mark Nagy, “Although the project is evolving, our main objective right now is to assess, from a psychometric standpoint, the viability of two tests used to hire employees.” One of these tests is a personality test and the other is a cognitive ability test.

”The chance to do some critical literature reviewing and looking for evidence of psychometric soundness fits very well with the Assessment Techniques class the students are currently taking. It wasn't formally required, but the students all ultimately chose to take part,” noted Dr. Mullins.
