John W. Rettig Lecture

Dumb Bunnies and Wise Asses: Aesop and the Classical Tradition in the U.S.A. | October 28, 2005

Gregory I. Carlson, S.J. will deliver this year's annual John W. Rettig Lecture next Saturday, November 5, 2005, at 4:30 pm in the Conaton Board Room. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture.

The lecture series is named to honor John W. Rettig, professor of classics (1968-1996), for his exemplary work on behalf of Xavier University, the department of classics and the honors bachelor of arts program.

This fall's distinguished speaker is Gregory I. Carlson, S.J. He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., in 1941 and educated by the Jesuits at Marquette High School. He entered the Wisconsin Province of the Jesuits in 1959. His education includes a Classical B.A. and an M.A. in Greek and Latin from St. Louis University as well as a Doctorate in Philosophy from Heidelberg. Carlson has been a tenured associate professor of Classics at both Holy Cross College and Creighton University.
