Xavier University Continues Hurricane Relief Efforts

25 undergrads from Louisiana schools to be officially welcomed TODAY | September 9, 2005

Twenty-five undergraduates and one graduate student from Tulane, Loyola University New Orleans, and Xavier University of Louisiana, are now part of the Xavier University of Cincinnati family. At least for awhile. The students will study at Xavier until their universities in hurricane ravaged Louisiana reopen.

The students will be officially welcomed to Xavier University by the Student Government Association (SGA) at 3:30 p.m. TODAY, Friday, September 9 in the Clock Tower Lounge, which is located on the third floor of the Gallagher Student Center.

SGA will pass out information packets and even have a birthday cake for one ‘new’ student whose birthday is today.

The Cincinnati Reds are also welcoming the students. The team donated 50 tickets to tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. SGA administrative vice president Omari Aarons is inviting the displaced students, their roommates and others to attend the game.

Most of the ‘new’ students are from Ohio, others hail from Texas, Wisconsin, South Carolina and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The group includes freshmen through seniors. The students are majoring in a variety of subjects including music education, political science, biology and marketing. At least seven are pre-med majors. A majority of the students are commuting, but at least eight will live on the University campus.
