On the Same Page events held on campus

University partners with Cincinnati Public Library for citywide reading club, including book talks, discussions and related events | April 11, 2005

In an effort to foster a sense of community through reading, area organizations, including Xavier University, are once again partnering for the 2005 On the Same Page Cincinnati project. Now in it’s fourth year, the community-wide reading club is gathering for book talks, discussions and related programs through May 1. Some of those events take place on the University campus.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix are the featured novels for this event. The Kite Runner, an epic tale of friendship and betrayal, is set against the backdrop of recent Afghan history and has enthralled readers across the country. Among the Hidden, a futuristic novel for middle schoolers, explores a number of complex issues through the eyes of a 12-year-old boy who lives in a society where the people are controlled by a totalitarian regime.

On Saturday, April 30, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., theology professor Gillian Ahlgren presents Lifting the Veil, a discussion of the life of women in Afghanistan before and after the Taliban at the main branch of the public library in downtown Cincinnati.

On the Same Page is a project of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and is made possible in part by the Friends of the Public Library, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, and Cincinnati Magazine. Program partners include The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Xavier University, Wild Oats, The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, The Council on American Islamic Relations, Blue Manatee Bookstore and PIGS Aloft Kite Club.
