Students come together for food, fellowship and fun

Free weekend includes worship service, workshops, faith-building opportunities and a gospel concert | April 8, 2005

Students Committed to Christ hosted its third annual gospel workshop and leadership conference, April 8-9, on Xavier's campus. The event, themed, "Destined to Lead," invited campus ministries from other colleges such as Wright State, Miami, Wilberforce, Akron and Toledo, as well as area high schools, to share fellowship with one another. About 150 people were expected to attend.

"The purpose of the weekend is for people to share their faith and meet new people from different places and see how they carry out their ministries," says Danisha Burnett, one of the founders of Students Committed to Christ and the event's advisor.

The weekend began Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. with a worship service and four student speakers in the atrium of the Gallagher Student Center. Afterwards, attendees walked over to the Commons apartments for a free, casual dinner where they played games, built community and won prizes such as CDs and Xavier gear.

On Saturday, six seminars took place in the Gallagher Student Center, from 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Topics included spiritual crossroads, the character of a leader and keeping your eye on the prize. The weekend culminated with a gospel concert at 6:30 p.m. performed by different gospel choirs and solo artists.

This event was sponsored by the student activities council, the student government association, the office of campus ministry, the gospel choir, the office of multicultural affairs and weekenders. For more information send an e-mail to
