Urban League president to speak at Martin Luther King celebration

Donna Jones Stanley speaks on the topic of connecting generations and continuing King's work | January 5, 2005

Donna Jones Stanley, president/CEO of the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, is the keynote speaker at the Martin Luther King Day celebration at Xavier on Thursday, Jan. 13. Stanley will deliver the talk, “Connecting Generations: The Movement Continues,” at 7:00 p.m. at the Gallagher Student Center theater.

The King Day celebration kicks off at 4:00 p.m. at the Gallagher Student Center clocktower lounge, with a discussion of the role of the church in relation to civic duty and diversity.

Members of students committed to Christ will host the discussion titled, “Stimulate Your Mind and Sound Off.” In the context of the life and work of King, the students have planned a facilitated conversation that seeks to approach major challenges facing the church such as racial solidarity, political involvement, gender roles and Christian fundamentalism, to name a few.

A light dinner will be served after the discussion. An R.S.V.P. for the dinner is required by Jan. 10. This event is sponsored by the office of multicultural affairs and students committed to Christ.
