Xavier University Concert Choir to Perform New Year's Eve with Cincinnati Pops

Choir Then Goes on Winter Tour to Four States | December 21, 2004

Xavier University’s Concert Choir will perform with the Cincinnati Pops on December 31, New Year’s Eve, at 7:30 p.m. at Music Hall in Cincinnati. The program includes music by Strauss and Lehar, plus selections from The Sound of Music.

The Concert Choir, directed by Thomas Merrill, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, is the primary vocal ensemble of Xavier’s music department. It is made up of 45 students who are majoring in a variety of subjects, from music performance to chemistry.

Following the New Year’s Eve performance, the choir will go on its winter tour to four states. During the first week in January, the group will perform in Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia. All performances are free.

The choir will present Advent and Christmas music during the first half of the concert. The second half of the concert will be a performance of Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore.”
