Men's basketball gets revenge on Richmond

Team posts strong effort in 62-51 win over Spiders to win third straight game and move up in A-10 standings | February 11, 2004

The three starting seniors on the men's basketball team showed their experience and leadership on Tuesday night, leading the Musketeers to a 62-51 victory over the Richmond Spiders. The win was Xavier’s third straight, raises the team's record to 13-9 overall and 4-5 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and avenges a rare home court loss to Richmond earlier this season.

Senior guard Lionel Chalmers led the Musketeers in scoring with 20 points to go with six rebounds, while senior forward Anthony Myles contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Romain Sato was the big star of the second half as he scored all 14 of his points and grabbed nine of his game-high 11 rebounds after halftime in the decisive second half. Sato recorded his third straight “double-double” in scoring-rebounding and his fifth of the season.

Xavier hosts the University of Massachusetts on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 4:00 p.m. at Cintas Center in a game that will be broadcast on the Atlantic 10 Television Network, including Fox Sports Net Ohio.
