Power of X-mas tree on display downtown

University-sponsored Christmas tree entered in silent auction for charity | December 4, 2003

The offices for external relations and the Community Building Collaborative at Xavier decorated a Xavier-themed Christmas tree as part of Celebritrees-a holiday celebration that benefits the charity work of Tender Mercies. The public is invited to bid in a silent auction for ownership of one of the 52 Celebritrees, each with its own local sponsor.

The University's "The Power of X-Mas Tree," along with the dozens of others being decorated and donated, is on display from Thursday, Dec. 4, to Thursday, Dec. 11, in downtown Cincinnati. The silent auction closes on Dec. 11. Visitors can view the trees at the former Closson's space at 401 Race St. The University-sponsored tree features Xavier ornaments and other novelty items, including key chains, golf balls, water bottles and hats. It also includes two front row basketball tickets to the Dec. 28 game against Elon College. The figure of D'Artagnan is perched on the top of the tree.

For information on bidding on the tree, visit the location at 401 Race St., call 513 947-8825 or e-mail schesley@one.net. All proceeds from the auction benefit Tender Mercies, which provides housing and support services to local homeless persons with histories of chronic mental illness.

Xavier is one of 52 local companies, corporations, organizations and individuals taking part in this fundraiser.
