Senior Anthony Myles had a big second half to lead Xavier to a 72-58 win over Mercer University in the Dell Black Coaches Association Classic semifinals on Sunday night at the Cintas Center.

The Musketeers (2-0) are playing Oakland University at 8:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, for the title of the eight-team, four-day tournament.

In the first half of Sunday’s game, Xavier quickly built a double-digit advantage and led by as many as 11 points twice in the period. But after going up 21-10 with 12:32 remaining in the opening half, the lead diminished. On three occasions in the final five minutes of the first half, Mercer got within three points of the Musketeers before Xavier built the lead back to 39-30 at intermission.

In the first half, Myles was held without a field goal on three attempts and had just one rebound. But he jump-started Xavier after the break, scoring twice to build the Musketeers’ advantage to 13 points.

Mercer climbed back into the game and got within four points of the lead at 46-42 with 13:30 remaining on the clock. Three points from Myles combined with a pair of baskets by Romain Sato helped Xavier use a 9-0 run to end the Bear attack.

Sato, a consensus preseason All-American from the Central African Republic, added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists for Xavier. Senior Lionel Chalmers finished with 12 points and five assists, while sophomore Will Caudle had six points and a career high eight rebounds.

Mercer (1-1) was led by Scott Emerson, who tallied 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Prior to Sunday’s semifinals, the Musketeers won their season opener in their first BCA round by a 62-37 landslide Saturday evening at the homecoming game against Coppin State University.
