After a pair of second-place finishes with their season openers, the mens and womens swim teams are hosting Boston College in a meet in the OConnor Sports Center Friday at 3:00 p.m. Also that afternoon, the cross country team travels to Pittsburgh for the Duquesne University Invitational at 3:45 p.m.

Also Friday, the 2003 U.S. Streetball tour is coming to the Cintas Center. The game, which is designed to be an athletic exhibition with plenty of tricks and slam dunks, pits the U.S. Streetballers against the Cincinnati All Stars. Featured players include stars of MTV's basketball TV shows "King of the Court" and "Who's Got Game." The event is sponsored by Xover Basketball Gear, a new sports apparel company specializing in basketball team clothing and related urban wear. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., and the game begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets vary in prices from $15-35 depending on seating. Students with a Xavier ID can buy tickets for $10, and students with other college IDs can get in for $12. Tickets are available at the Cintas box office. On Saturday, Oct. 18, National Pan-Hellenic fraternities and sororities are competing in the fifth annual Greekfest step show at the Cintas Center. Co-sponsored by Xavier's office of multicultural affairs and black student association, the competition begins in the arena at 7:00 p.m. and is followed by an after-party at 10:00 p.m. The event is open to the public. Tickets purchased in advance for the show and after-party are $15. At the door, which opens are 6:00 p.m., tickets for the competition and party combined are $20. The rifle team aims for a victory in its second competition of the season as it heads to Cookeville, Tenn., to face Tennessee Tech University and the University of Mississippi at 8:00 a.m. The team opened its season earlier this month with a narrow defeat by the United States Military Academy. At noon, the swim teams compete in the last of three consecutive days of meets, hosting Eastern Illinois University at the O'Connor Sports Center. And the volleyball team heads north for an A-10 game at the University of Rhode Island at 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 19, Randall Avers performs as a guest of the classical guitar series at 2:30 p.m. in the Gallagher Student Center theater. This world-renowned performer was selected in 1998 as an Artistic Ambassador of the United States and toured North Africa teaching, lecturing and performing American jazz and classical music. Also Sunday, the men and women's soccer teams face George Washington University in A-10 games. The men's team hosts George Washington at 1:00 p.m., while the women's team travels to Washington, D.C., for a 1:00 p.m. match against the university. In a match rescheduled because of rain earlier in the week, the men's tennis team hosts Wright State University at 1:00 p.m.
Also Sunday, Xavier men's basketball is holding walk-on tryouts for participation in the upcoming 2003-2004 season. Full-time, enrolled undergraduate students are eligible to attend.
