Men's golf team finishes second in 49er tournament

Team breaks two records for lowest single round and lowest two-round total in process | October 7, 2003

The men's golf team finished in a tie for second place in the 49er Collegiate Classic golf tournament in Huntersville, N.C., on Tuesday, Oct. 7, six strokes behind tournament winner Indiana University. Xavier shot a 16-under 848, but set two school records in the process.

The team led the tournament after the first two rounds after opening with a record round of 275, and then combining it with a second round of 283 for a 36-hole score of 558, which is also a school record.

Xavier gets a chance for revenge against Indiana, as the Hoosiers are among the 21 teams the Musketeers host in the Xavier Provident Invitational next week. The tournament is held on the Grizzly Tournament Course at the Golf Center at Kings Island.
