This honor adds to a growing collection of preseason acclaims for Sato. Last month Sato was named to The John R. Wooden Award Preseason All-American Team for the second consecutive year. The Wooden list includes the top 50 preseason All-American candidates. In addition, this summer ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale named Sato to his preseason All-Rolls Royce Second Team.
Sato, Xavier's leading returning scorer and rebounder, ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding (7.1 rebounds per game) and sixth in scoring (18.1 points per game) last season as he garnered Atlantic 10 Conference First Team honors. He also won A-10 All-Defensive Team honors for the second straight year.
Last season Sato combined with David West, 2003 Associated Press and USBWA National Player of the Year and three-time Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, to lead the Musketeers to a 26-6 overall record, a second consecutive Atlantic 10 West Division Championship with a 15-1 record, and a spot in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. Xavier finished a school record high 12th in the final Associated Press Poll.
