ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale has named Xavier University senior guard Romain Sato (Central African Republic) to his preseason All-Rolls Royce Second Team. The team appears in Vitales guest column on espn.com.
All-American candidate Sato, who made the 2002-2003 preseason Wooden list, is the shooting guard on Vitale's Rolls Royce squad. Vitale says: "Another Atlantic 10 standout, Sato will have to come up big and improve on his 18.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game now that David West has moved on to the NBA. Sato ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding and sixth in scoring last season as he garnered Atlantic 10 Conference first team honors.
West, who was the 2003 Associated Press and United States Basketball Writers Association national player of the year and three-time A-10 player of the year, combined with A-10 first team selection Sato to lead the Musketeers to a 26-6 overall record, a second consecutive Atlantic 10 west division championship with a 15-1 record and a spot in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. Xavier finished 12th in the final Associated Press poll.
Sato is joined on the All-Rolls Royce second team by fellow Atlantic 10 guard and A-10 standout Jameer Nelson of Saint Josephs, small forward Luke Jackson of Oregon, power forward Darius Rice of Miami (Fla.), and center Arthur Johnson of Missouri.
