Freshman Rob Simpson named top rookie, while senior Matt Thinnes named to All-Conference team | April 23, 2003
Freshman tennis player Rob Simpson was named the most outstanding rookie in the Atlantic 10 Conference on Tuesday. Simpson had a 24-2 singles record and a 19-6 mark in doubles competition during the season.
Simpson is the first Xavier men's tennis player to be named the A-10's top rookie. Last season, Lauren Clary was named the top rookie in women's tennis.
Also, senior Matt Thinnes was named to the All-Conference Team and to the All-Academic Team on Tuesday. Xavier has had a player on the All-Conference Team four straight years. In the classroom, Thinnes boasts a 3.63 grade point average while majoring in finance.
Xavier placed fourth at the 2003 Atlantic 10 Championships, marking its third straight season finishing in the top four.
