Juniors Sarah Steel and Elizabeth Suever are performing at the 57th Capital One Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., on New Years Day. Besides being members of the Xavier dance team, the women also belong to the Technical Dance Center, which was invited to participate in the event. The dance students are raising money to cover the cost of travel, accommodations, costumes and meals. Xaviers dance team is hosting a spaghetti dinner and silent auction Friday, Nov. 8, at 5:00 p.m. in Cincinnatis Riverfront West Pavilion (7958 Harrison Ave.).
Also performing with the group is 2002 graduate Suzie Shockley. Shockley is a former Xavier dance team member and a current student at the Technical Dance Center. The dance studio is owned and instructed by Diane Campbell, who is also Xaviers dance team instructor. Her students were asked to perform after she sent a videotape of the students recital to the producers of the halftime show. The Capital One Florida Citrus Bowl is a nationally televised game between the Big 10 and Southeastern conferences. The halftime show features dancers, cheerleaders and band members from across the country.
Besides the spaghetti dinner and silent auction, the students are also selling raffle tickets. The drawing for the grand prizea three-night, four-day stay at any hotel in the United Statestakes place Sunday, Dec. 8. The students are asking for cash donations from businesses or donations of prizes for the raffle.
