Fall sports begin wrapping up
Rifle, soccer teams score big over weekend, basketball begins on Tuesday | November 4, 2002
The fall sports season began coming to a close over the weekend, as several teams wrapped up their years with regular season or tournament games.
The women's soccer team swept its final two games of the year, finishing the season 10-9 overall and giving the program its 14th straight winning season.
The men's soccer team set a school record with its seventh shutout of the season on Friday and then assured itself of its first winning season since 1998 with a double-overtime tie on Sunday. The team wraps up its season this Sunday.
The rifle team won its first home match of the season, with 10 personal bests being set in the process. It begins the Walsh Memorial Rifle Tournament on Friday.
The cross country teams competed in the Atlantic 10 Championships, with the men recording their best finish in the conference tournament since joining the A-10 eight years ago. The women finished 10th.
And the volleyball team suffered a setback in a thrilling five-game match against Dayton. The team plays again Friday night at Fordham.
Also this week, the men's basketball team begins its season with an exhibition game against the EA Sports All-Stars on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Cintas Center. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
