Dr. John E. Douglass will moderate this discussion of the landmark civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia. Laws governing interracial sex and marriage followed the arrival of the British in North America in the 17th century and lasted for more than three centuries. These laws remained on the books in many states until 1967, when the United States Supreme Court found them unconstitutional in Loving v. Virginia.
