The Xavier Music Department has hosted a number of vocal ensemble performances throughout each year as opportunities for performance for both singers and the audience receiving them. Most of the songs one hears require complex piano accompaniment. Jan Corrothers, an adjunct Xavier Music Department faculty member, does that and more.

Polina Bespalko is a member of the music faculty at Xavier University and is the director of the Xavier University Music Series. Originally from Russia, Bespalko will be giving a concert highlighting important Russian and Soviet composers on March 27 in the Werner Recital Hall at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Jim Daughters is the music composer/arranger for the Williamstown High School Marching Band in Williamstown, Kentucky. This past Saturday, November 1st, the Williamstown Band competed and won a State Championship in the Kentucky Music Educators Association State Marching Band Championships on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY.

Schnipke takes over as Director of Choral Activities

Dr. Richard Schnipke has taken over as the director for Xavier’s concert choir. Dr. Schnipke, who was initially hired as the director of music education, is in his second year at Xavier and is now the Director of Choral Activities. In addition to directing Concert Choir, Schnipke directs both the men’s and women’s choruses.

Musica Sacra founder passes baton after 48 seasons

For 48 years Helmut Roehrig has led Musica Sacra in three concerts per year, without charge for admission. This month, Roehrig passed the baton to Brett Scott, associate professor of ensembles and conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, who succeeds him as music director.

Under the tutelage of vocal instructor Harriet Beebe Arrasmith, the voices of sophomores Brandon Langjahr, Elizabeth Rancourt, Mary Bond and Griffith Bludworth pierced the night air with selections ranging from classical to contemporary songs. Each student sang a few songs that best fit his or her vocal range.
