Daughters' music for Williamstown Marching Band helps win State Championship

Jim Daughters is the music composer/arranger for the Williamstown High School Marching Band in Williamstown, Kentucky. This past Saturday, November 1st, the Williamstown Band competed and won a State Championship in the Kentucky Music Educators Association State Marching Band Championships on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY.

The 2014 Xavier University Fall Music Festival began on Oct. 27 as a kickoff to the Xavier musical season. This annual Fall Music Festival will be held over the course of the week, showcasing many of Xavier’s wide variety of ensemble music groups, including the Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Winds.

Dr. Jim Daughters has stepped into the position of director of instrumental studies for the new school year. Daughters’ new position puts him at the head of ensembles such as the Xavier Pep Band and Symphonic Winds.

Schnipke takes over as Director of Choral Activities

Dr. Richard Schnipke has taken over as the director for Xavier’s concert choir. Dr. Schnipke, who was initially hired as the director of music education, is in his second year at Xavier and is now the Director of Choral Activities. In addition to directing Concert Choir, Schnipke directs both the men’s and women’s choruses.

Musica Sacra founder passes baton after 48 seasons

For 48 years Helmut Roehrig has led Musica Sacra in three concerts per year, without charge for admission. This month, Roehrig passed the baton to Brett Scott, associate professor of ensembles and conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, who succeeds him as music director.

Under the tutelage of vocal instructor Harriet Beebe Arrasmith, the voices of sophomores Brandon Langjahr, Elizabeth Rancourt, Mary Bond and Griffith Bludworth pierced the night air with selections ranging from classical to contemporary songs. Each student sang a few songs that best fit his or her vocal range.

Buzza Premiering Long-Forgotten Venetian Sacred Music on March 2

Since 2009, Scot Buzza has been researching unknown, unpublished, and unperformed works of Venetian sacred music from the 1700s. Most of these works exist only in a single manuscript copy, stored in archives and collections in Venice, Dresden, Paris, Munich, or Vienna.
