Ronald W. Quinn is entering his 33rd year in teaching. During this time he has worked at every educational level, and holding such positions as a health and physical education teacher, director of athletics, sports information director, physical education department chair, and coach of a variety of sports (soccer, tennis, JV basketball, & swimming).
His educational preparation includes an A.S. degree (1972) in Health & Physical Education from Montgomery County Community College, (Blue Bell, PA); B.S. in Health & Physical Education from East Stroudsburg University (1975), East Stroudsburg, PA; an M.Ed. (1981) in Physical Education from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA; and an Ed.D. (1994) in Sport Administration, also from Temple University.
Dr. Quinn designed the curriculums in sport management both at DeSales College in Center Valley, PA and Xavier University, but Dr. Quinn is mostly known for his work in coaching education and in particular that of educating youth soccer coaches and player development. A member of the United States Youth Soccer (USYS) National Staff he was one of the primary authors of the USYS National Youth License and the State Youth Modules. For his work over the past 30 years in coaching education, he was awarded the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Youth Long-Term Achievement Award and in 2007 received the US Youth Soccer Dr. Thomas Fleck Excellence in Youth Coaching Education Award.
Dr. Quinn's professional service includes being an international tutor for the English Football Association (FA) for their online courses in psychology for football (soccer) and fitness. He just completed a three-year term as a member of the board of directors for the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education programs (NCACE) and is currently on the editorial board for the Soccer Journal (Official Publication of the NSCAA) and the board of directors for the Urban Soccer Collaborative (USC) and the Cincinnati Sport Professionals Network (CSPN). Additionally Coach Quinn served as the Xavier University Women's Soccer Coach from 1993 – 2004 holding a 134 – 95 – 16 record over the 12 year period, winning two Atlantic-Ten Tournament titles and qualifying for the conference tournament nine of 12 seasons.
Dr. Quinn is considered a leading authority in youth soccer and coaching education presenting at prestigious national and international conferences. In 1999 along with colleague Dr. Thomas Fleck were the first Americans to present at the XX Annual Union of European Football (Soccer) Trainers Symposium, in Wembley, London. More recently Dr. Quinn and Dr. Dave Carr (Ohio University) were also the only Americans to present at the International Council for Coaching Education Global Coach Conference on The Developmental Characteristics of U.S. Male and Female National Team Players, August 28 – September 4, Beijing Sport University, Beijing, China.
Dr. Quinn has authored, co-authored or provided chapters to seven soccer coaching books. He has published over 25 articles on various aspects of youth coaching and has conducted numerous coaching education programs.
At Xavier University his primary teaching responsibilities includes undergraduate courses in sport ethics and contemporary coaching, and the graduate courses in sport research and statistics, sport ethics and psycho-social aspects of sport.
