Russell teaches both undergraduate and graduate-level marketing courses, focusing in the areas of marketing strategy and services marketing at Xavier University. He has extensive executive education experience, including Xavier’s executive MBA program. Russell has more than 12 years of corporate marketing management experience, most notably at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City and Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, Texas. Russell earned his PhD in Marketing at the University of Alabama in 2003 and taught at the University of New Orleans prior to joining Xavier in 2011.
Russell’s current research interests explore linkages between relationship marketing and corporate social responsibility as well as studying the marketing impact of sponsoring and staging events and experiences. He has extensively researched how customer loyalty programs can effectively benefit customers and companies. His research has been published in many peer reviewed marketing journals, including: Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Service Research, Marketing Letters, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Marketing Theory & Practice, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, among others. He has contributed to three books, including the Handbook on Research in Relationship Marketing.
Russell is the recipient of the O’Conor Research Fellowship (2014-2017) as well as the Cintas Faculty Ethics Fellowship (2014-2016) for Williams College of Business at Xavier University.
