Came to Xavier in 1972 from doctoral studies in English literature at Cornell. In addition to teaching for the English and theology departments, he was a regular presider and preacher in Bellarmine Chapel. After a term serving his Jesuit brothers as director of early and continuing formation, he returned to Xavier in 1987 to start Ignatian Programs, the antecedent of today's Center for Mission and Identity. He is the author of the booklet Do You Speak Ignatian? (60,000 copies in print) and two anthologies, An Ignatian Spirituality Reader and A Jesuit Education Reader (2008).
