Erick Urbaniak is happy to once again be an active member of the Xavier University community after stints teaching at the University of Cincinnati and East Stroudsburg University. After completing a B.A. at Xavier, he went on to earn his M.A. and Ph.D. in German Studies from the University of Cincinnati. There he developed an interest in Crime Literature and has incorporated his research into the curriculum via the Literature and Moral Imagination Series in which German texts and films from the 18th century to the present are investigated to shed light upon our contemporary social institutions.
Erick very much relishes teaching all levels of German as one might gather from hearing his classes singing preposition songs across the hall. He is currently the adviser of the German Club and also organizes film showings and the occasional Kaffeeklatsch so that students may practice their language skills outside of the classroom.
He is also currently the Director of the Language Lab--assisting students and faculty of all languages with the dedicated software programs used the the Department of Modern Languages and the ESL program.
