First Year at Xavier University:
Pediatrics, preschool and school-based practice
Mrs. Tunningley’s work experiences include early intervention, schools, hospital, and skilled nursing facility. Her primary interest is inter-professional education and the integration of child development with occupational participation for children and their families. She is certified in the administration and interpretation of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test and Certified in Neurodevelopmental Treatment (in pediatrics). She maintains Board Certification in Pediatrics through AOTA and has served as a reviewer for this certification area and on the Board for Advanced Specialty and Certification through the AOTA. Mrs. Tunningley is recipient of the OOTA Service Award and Service Commendation from AOTA. She was honored with the first Faculty Teaching Award from the College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education in 2009. As a Clinical Faculty, Joan maintains clinical practice two days each week for Winton Woods City Schools. Joan is actively involved at the local, state and national OT associations.
Joan teaches the Domains and Process courses. In these intense courses, students apply evaluation skills to clients and then plan and implement interventions including treatment, home programs and discharge plans. Through work with exceptional occupational therapists and other professionals in the region, community engaged learning experiences are an integral part of these courses.
