Dr. Hodgson obtained her B.A. from Purdue in Spanish, her M.A. from New York University (in Madrid) in Spanish Literature and her Ph.D. from Purdue in Spanish and Latin American Literatures. She has taught at Purdue, Ohio State, California State University at Chico and at Xavier since 1986. She has taught all levels of Spanish and Hispanic Culture Workshops for High School Teachers. She directs the Latin American Studies minor. In 2001 she received the Bishop Fenwick Teacher of the Year Award. She has published articles on Chilean literature and translations of Chilean literature and testimonies as well as translations of Chilean poetry and Latin American liberation theologians. She has also translated the diary and a book of excerpts from the homilies of assassinated Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador. She has led Xavier Summer Study Programs to Mexico and Spain several times and the Xavier Academic Service Learning Semester in Nicaragua in 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2006.

Dr. Hodgson is Xavier's Professor in Residence.

Dr. Hodgson was the 2001 Fenwick Teacher of the Year. Read her address to the year's Honors Convocation here.

She was named Interim Director of the Academic Service Learning Semesters (Ghana, India, Nicaragua and Urban Cincinnati) in May 2006.
