Dr. Gary Lewandowski has been teaching computer science at Xavier University since 1994. He was named full professor in 2006 and served as chair of the department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 2006 to 2012. Dr. Lewandowski received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994. His research interests include: parallel and distributed computing, including applications to real-world problems; computational biology; and computer science education, including novice programmers. Dr. Lewandowski has served as principal investigator on four National Science Foundation (NSF) grants. His current NSF grant funds the Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program at Xavier, investigating the pathways students take from service opportunities to long-term success as teachers of science, mathematics and technology in high-need districts. The grant provides significant scholarship funding opportunities for science, mathematics and computer science students at Xavier.
