First Year at Xavier University:
Mathematics content for middle and early childhood pre-service and in-service teachers
Sheila Doran teaches the core mathematics courses at Xavier in addition to the mathematics content courses for middle and early childhood elementary education majors. She also teaches professional development courses in mathematics content for Cincinnati area in-service teachers. Prior to coming to Xavier, Ms. Doran taught at Delhi Junior High School. In 2005, through a grant from the Ohio Higher Education Network, Ms. Doran and Dr. Danny Otero completely revised the mathematics content courses for Xavier’s middle childhood and early childhood education majors. Ms. Doran has also developed two Mathematical Perspectives (MATH 125) courses: the first, Women and Mathematics, and the second, Mathematics and Music. In the summer of 2012 Ms. Doran participated in Xavier’s Online Initiative by teaching MATH 150, Elements of Calculus, online.
