Dr. Walker launched her career at Xavier as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in 1980. While her area of specialty is entire function theory, she taught a broad spectrum of courses including calculus, linear algebra, statistics, applied analysis, and complex variables. After serving as Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for seven years, she was appointed Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 1999, becoming the first female and the first African American to serve as a college dean in Xavier's history. Throughout the seventeen years she served as dean, Dr. Walker was a strong advocate of academic excellence, diversity and inclusion, faculty development, mentoring, and undergraduate research.

Beyond Xavier, Dr. Walker was an active member of the American Conference of Academic Deans (ACAD) and the AJCU Arts and Sciences Deans Council. She continues to be engaged in the local community and, in particular, serves on the boards of M²SE (Minorities in Mathematics, Science and Engineering), the Queen City Foundation, and Breakthrough Cincinnati. Her contributions at the University and in the local and professional communities have been recognized by awards and citations including the YWCA Career Woman of Achievement Award in 2007 and Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Membership in 2016.

Dr. Walker holds a BS in mathematics from Tuskegee University and MS and PhD degrees in mathematics from the University of Michigan.
