The Xavier University Symphonic Winds begin their 2013 Spring Semester with something "old, new, borrowed and blue." The "old" work on the program will be "Moorside March," conducted by student conductor, Patrick Rocks. The "new" work is Mendel Lee's "Beauty... Beholder," the winner of the 2013 XU Young Composer Commission, and this performance will be the world premiere of this composition written specifically for this ensemble. Mr. Lee, who lives and works in New Orleans, LA will be in residence the week before the concert and be at the performance. The "borrowed" piece is Ryan George's "Firefly," and the "blue" work is Frank Ticheli's "Blue Shades," featuring recent XU graduate, James Wiederhold on solo clarinet. Kimberly Thurman will also conduct Steven Bryant's "Dusk" on the program.
