Xavier @ 2013 USAU Ohio D-3 College Open CC
Xavier's B.L.O.B. hit the road to Cleveland, OH for its 2013 Conference tournament. Originally, the tournament was supposed to be played in Versailles, OH, but heavy rain and flooded fields for a site change to Cleveland. Going into the tournament, Xavier was the #2 seed overall, only behind Kenyon. B.L.O.B. had little trouble with opponents on Saturday, going undefeated for the day and moving into the semi-finals on Sunday morning. Even with the muddy conditions as a result of overnight rain, Xavier defeated Ohio Wesleyan (14-9), Wooster (15-3), Denison (15-3), and John Carroll (15-2). On Sunday, Xavier's first game was against Oberlin at 9am. Again, the field became extremely muddy early on Sunday after the previous day of playing on it. This was a very competitive game, especially the first half. Teams traded points and went into halftime with a score of Oberlin ahead of Xavier. 7-6. However, Xavier came out very strong in the second half and played very well to roll to a 13-8 win, only allowing Oberlin one second half score. Xavier moved on to face Kenyon, a top 3 D-3 team, in the championship. Another tough, competitive game from both teams resulted in a close halftime score of 7-6 again, with Kenyon leading. Both teams were playing their best ultimate, with each team making athletic plays with great throws, catches, and defense. However, Kenyon's zone got the best of Xavier and allowed them to pull away with a final score of 13-10. Xavier then officially took 2nd place with a win over Denison, 13-6. After the Kenyon game, B.L.O.B. feels very confident of their chances at 2013 USAU Ohio Valley D-3 College Open Regionals for a chance to get to College Nationals, but are making sure to take it one game at a time and not overlook any opponents.
