The theme of Sustainability Day 2013 is Energy Justice: Sustainable Forms of Energy that are ecologically sound as well as economically advantageous for all members of society, especially the least well off. In Emerald Cities: Urban Sustainability and Economic Development, and in her latest book in process, Greenovation, Joan Fitzgerald examines how cities can contribute to energy justice, by creating economic development through green sectors and eco-districts.
Garry Harris, from Atlanta's Center for Sustainable Communities, and Larry Falkin, from Cincinnati's Office of Environment & Sustainability, will speak to how energy justice is being addressed in these cities.
The event is free and open to the public, and will take place Monday, October 28, 3-4:30pm, Kennedy Auditorium, Conaton Learning Commons 412.
Sponsored by the Sustainability Committee at Xavier, Brueggeman Center for Dialogue at Xavier, and co-sponsored by Xavier's Department of Philosophy, Center for Teaching Excellence, and Ethics/Religion and Society.
