Math & CS Seminar

Time:
3:00 PM until 4:00 PM

Date:
Monday, January 28, 2013

Location:
100 Logan Hall

Description:

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) is an international contest in which teams of three undergraduates each use their own ideas to develop solutions to a real world problem.  Once the contest begins, teams have 96 hours to research and submit their solution in the form of a written report.  Team members are permitted to consult any references they would like (e.g., books, websites), but they cannot discuss the problem with anyone else.  All submissions are judged, and noteworthy reports receive special recognition.

In this seminar, members of the Math & CS department will share their own MCM experiences:  Dr. Bernd Rossa has advised MCM teams representing Xavier over the past several years, and senior Mathematics majors Zachary Joyce and John McClellan participated in both 2011 and 2012.

Students interested in participating in the 2013 MCM, which begins on Thursday, January 31, are especially encouraged to attend this seminar to learn more!
