Xavier University’s School of Nursing has been selected by the Ohio Board of Nursing to receive two grants totaling almost $400,000 through the Nurse Education Grant Program. These were the second and third major grants received by Xavier’s School of Nursing last week.

Xavier University’s School of Nursing has been awarded a grant of almost $1.5 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is the largest federal grant in the University’s history.

More than 31,000 prayers from thousands of people across the United States were delivered to the Western Wall this week by Xavier University (Cincinnati, OH) Rabbi Abie Ingber, Xavier University Brueggeman Center Director James Buchanan and former Xavier Theology Department Chair and now St. Joseph’s Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Bill Madges.

A new children’s garden and daily fresh fruit for all children attending PRM during June of 2009 is due to the generosity of Xavier University graduate and donor Robert McDonald, M.D., of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. McDonald specified that his gift be used for a philanthropic activity where University students would plan and participate in a project involving some level of experiential learning to help feed the needy.

As part of The Contemporary Arts Center’s 2008-2009 Perspectives Lecture Series: Art, History and Memory, Xavier University history professors Dr. Dick Gruber, Dr. Rachel Chrastil and Dr. JuliaO’Hara will screen and then discuss Anri Sala’s early film, Intervista. It will be viewed on August 17th, 6:30-8:00 pm in the CAC Performance Space. It is free to CAC members and open to non-members by donation.

The Xavier Leadership Center (XLC), part of Xavier University’s focus on adult training and leadership development, has created a process to help these professionals get the training and professional credentials they need. The XLC is hosting free and open Information Sessions on July 9, 14 and 17 to explain more about the program and help local professionals begin the application process

Ida Critelli Schick, Ph.D., FACHE, Professor and Chair/Director of the Graduate Program in Health Services Administration at Xavier University, has been selected as the recipient of the 2009 Teaching and Advising Award from the ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives) for Ohio. She will be presented the award at the ACHE breakfast during the Ohio Hospital Association annual meeting in Columbus on June 15th.

The Xavier University Army Reserve Officer Training Corps “All for One” Battalion hosted the 10th regional Best Ranger competition on April 18th at several Cincinnati- area locations, including Mt. Airy National Forest, Lunken Airfield and the Xavier Campus. Fifteen universities from four states sent 32 teams to participate.

For qualified participants, 100% of the registration fee is covered by economic stimulus funds, with participant materials and examination fees often included.

Xavier University’s 171st commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 16 at the University’s Cintas Center.
Separate ceremonies will be held for students receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The undergraduate class of 2009 will receive their diplomas beginning at 9:00 a.m. Graduate degrees will be awarded at 2:00 p.m.

Shaye Worthman, 22, who is graduating summa cum laudefrom Xavier University with majors in psychology and Spanish and a double minor in gender and diversity studies and Latin American studies, is the 2009 Xavier University Elet Award winner. This is the award formerly known as the valedictorian. It is given to the student who maintains the highest grade point average and has an outstanding record of service.
