The Xavier University Institute for Politics and Public Life is teaming up with Invest in Neighborhoods Inc. to conduct a Cincinnati City Council candidate forum on behalf of community councils on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7:00 p.m., in the Cintas Center on the Xavier University campus. All 21 candidates for both the council and the mayor’s office are expected to attend. This event is free and open to the public.

Xavier University’s Community Building Institute (CBI) will present at the second annual Dayton Neighborhood Conference this Saturday, September 12, at the Dayton Convention Center. Presented by the City of Dayton Department of Planning & Community Development, the conference is themed “Dayton Beautiful: Original People, Places & Dreams” and will present resources and information for neighborhood leaders and “reinventing” neighborhoods.

On Wednesday, September 30 at 7:30 pm at Knox Presbyterian Church 3400 Michigan Avein Hyde Park, Xavier University’s Music Department will hold a benefit concert for the Dona Buel Memorial Fund. The concert is free and open to the public, but a donation to the Fund is appreciated. Donations will be used to help fund scholarships for music students.

Christians for Peace in El Salvador (CRISPAZ) is a social justice organization founded in 1984 by a Carmelite priest, a Lutheran minister and a Quaker laywoman. Its mission is to labor in solidarity with the impoverished and dispossessed in El Salvador, the small Central American nation that suffered a 12-year civil war from 1980-1992. Mike Nelson, professor of psychology at Xavier University, is one of the winners of a Bronze Telly in the 30th Annual Telly Awards. Almost 11,000 entries were received from all 50 states and around the world. His video series teaches children and their parents how to handle aggression.
