Rabbi Abie Ingber of the Office of Interfaith Community Engagement at Xavier University has made the hard decision to cancel a medical mission trip to Haiti after host Heart to Heart International (HHI) informed him they cannot deliver the security they feel the trip would need.

Xavier University has received the National Association for Campus Activities Outstanding Diversity Achievement Campus Program Award for its Day of Solidarity Event held on October 20, 2010. Recognizing a need for an immediate reaction to youth suicides related to bullying and the need for a proactive stance for LGBTQ individuals as a Jesuit, Catholic institution, people from all departments and from faculty, staff, administration and students came together.

Xavier University’s Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice has added Jim Riordan, S.J. to its staff. The Chicago native and member of the Chicago Province of the Society of Jesus will serve at Xavier as assistant director of Faith and Justice for three years. He is in what the Jesuits call “regency” - a time for men to be fully involved in the apostolic work and community life of the Provinces.

Christopher Head, a senior management and entrepreneurial studies major at Xavier University in Cincinnati has received an award from British Airways in its “Face of Opportunity Contest.” He is the founder of Head’s Up! Inflatables, LLC, an entertainment company he started to help fund his education. His award includes free travel to New York, London, and Shanghai to visit U.S., British and Chinese venture capital firms in Spring 2011.

From January 2 - 9, thirteen Xavier pre-med students, 2 staff from Xavier’s Office of Interfaith Community Engagement and 4 medical professionals will travel to Haiti under the medical auspices of Heart to Heart International (H2H), a faith-based initiative which has had teams in Haiti since the day after the quake. The Xavier group will live outside Port-au-Prince and commute into the city to H2H’s large primary care facility. Smaller teams will venture into more remote areas during the week.
