CINCINNATI, Sept. 23, 2011 -- Xavier University will be represented twice in the 2011 Cincinnati Film Festival. “The Roller Derby Queens”, a documentary produced by Blis DeVault, assistant professor of Communication Arts and director of Xavier’s Television Center, and “Tipping Point,” an 18-minute film documentary produced by David Pergolini, a student in DeVault’s Senior Seminar class (she was also the film’s executive producer), will be screened next week.

Xavier University’s newest addition to campus will now be known as Bishop Edward Fenwick Place. The complex name was unveiled at Xavier’s Founders’ Day event last night. In addition, the greenspace outside Fenwick Place, Gallagher Student Center and Husman Residence Hall will be known as Xavier Yard and the future site of the offices of residence life, auxiliary services, bursar and registrar inside Fenwick Place will be known as The Musketeer Mezzanine.

Cincinnati, OH -- John B. Maydonovitch, chief executive officer of San Jose-based MCE Inc., is receiving the Xavier University Founders' Day Award for 2011. In a survey of more than 2,000 schools just released by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine, Xavier University was distinguished as one of the top schools in the country for undergraduate entrepreneurship programs. Kam Wong has been invited to give a public lecture and conduct a seminar at Hong Kong University’s Policing Studies Forum September 2 and 3 on his upcoming books. He will speak on “Police Reform in China” and “Cyberspace Governance in China.” Wong is associate professor of Criminal Justice at Xavier University. Xavier University is participating in the President’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge, an initiative led by the White House and supported by the Department of Education and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). On August 3, Rabbi Abie Ingber, founding director of Xavier’s Office of Interfaith Community Engagement, traveled to the White House to help launch the challenge.

From September 6 through October 10, Xavier University will present Die Weiße Rose (White Rose) exhibit on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Gallagher Student Center. Presented by Xavier’s Office of Interfaith Community Engagement, Xavier’s German Language Program, Weisse Rose Foundation, and Lord Mayor Christian Ude of Munich, 47 black and white photographs with accompanying text introduce the story of Die Weiße Rose. The exhibit opening at 5:30pm on September 6 will be followed by a reception.
