Judi Godsey, assistant professor of Nursing at Xavier University, teaches research to undergraduate nursing students. For the past two years, she has been an academic advisor with the Nursing Research Council (NRC) of Fairfield Medical Center (FMC) (an acute care hospital in Lancaster, Ohio) via videoconferencing technology. Many graduate nursing students in rural areas attend Xavier classes via videoconference from Fairfield.

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life takes place at Xavier University beginning Friday, April 19th at 3:00 p.m. and continuing through Saturday, April 20th at 9:00 a.m. This is Xavier’s 11th Relay For Life with the slogan “To a Cure and Beyond.” The 18-hour event celebrates survivors, remembers those who have lost the battle, and fights back against the disease.

The Ault Park Advisory Council will hold a wine tasting and art sampler in the park on May 2 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Pavilion. The works of Xavier University alumna Holly Schapker will be featured. Her inspiring paintings of nature scenes include some depicting the beauty of Ault Park.

As part of Campus Conservation Nationals, a national energy competition, Xavier University is holding a competition among the seven residence halls on campus to see which can reduce its energy consumption (water and electricity) by proportionately more than the others. A baseline measurement has been taken. Data will be tracked throughout the competition.

The Xavier University Montessori Lab School is expanding. It is adding two Early Childhood classrooms (for children 3-6 years old) and individual Lower and Upper Elementary classrooms, (ages 6-9 and 9-12). The Lab School is currently accepting applications for all classrooms and will hold an Open House at the School on Wednesday, April 17th from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Xavier University’s Center for Interfaith Community Engagement will celebrate Holi, a Hindu spring festival of colors on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 3:00 pm on the Xavier Yard. On the same day, students will create Alfombras, a Central American tradition. An Easter event celebrated since the 16th century, carpets, also known as Alfombras, are created with sawdust and then dyed to illustrate images of religious figures and biblical stories.

Xavier University President Michael J. Graham, S.J., announced today that Xavier is joining a 10-team conference with fellow private schools Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, and Villanova. The conference will be officially named the Big East on July 1.

The annual conference of the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) was held March 16 and 17. Xavier University made a very good showing. The conference gave awards to the top ten out of 240 student submissions. Undergraduates at Xavier University received three of those ten awards. Christian End, PhD, associate professor of psychology at Xavier was named SEPA Mentor of the Year.

Thanks to a generous grant from The Jewish Foundation, Xavier University will take students – both undergraduate and graduate – to study in Israel in May. The trips are available to MBA and undergraduate students from Greater Cincinnati studying at any University.
