She has also taught a seminar on nineteenth-century Paris for Xavier’s Summer Honors Program in the City of Light itself. Her courses analyze the actions of ordinary people as well as the work of prominent intellectual, political and cultural figures.
Chrastil’s book Organizing for War: France 1870-1914 (Louisiana State University Press, 2010) examines civil society’s role in preparing France for World War I.
Her current book project is The Siege of Strasbourg: War and Humanity at the Crossroads of Europe (under contract to Harvard University Press). For this project she won a Fulbright-Alsace Regional Council Award, which allowed her to research in Strasbourg, France.
