Biography:

Doris S. Jackson is Director of the Academic Advising Center at Xavier.  She began her career at Xavier in 1982 as Director of Developmental Programs (summer/fall Academic Bridge) for undergraduate students.  In 1986, she was appointed Director of Academic Advising and the Summer Bridge Program with the responsibility of organizing and coordinating academic advising services.   

                Currently, she supervises the Academic Advising Center staff, coordinates academic advising services for undergraduate students/academic advisors in the three colleges, advises Natural Sciences (NATS) freshmen and teaches Effective Reading and Study Skills (PSYC 100) fall semesters.  She has also taught English and Reading/Study Skills at other universities and in the Cincinnati school system.

                Ms. Jackson is a member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), International Reading Association (College Literacy) and has given several papers and presentations at both NACADA and IRA; the College Board and several high schools in the greater Cincinnati area.  She also developed the brochures, programs for Summer and Fall Bridge and the current A Guide to Academic Advising.  In 1990, NACADA/ACT awarded her the Outstanding Academic Advisor award and the Academic Advising program was awarded a Certificate of Merit for Innovative and Exemplary Practices in the Academic Advising of students.  She is very much interested in the larger community and has served on several boards.  Presently, she serves on the Board of Trustees of ArtsWave (previously Fine Arts Fund) and the Racial Justice Committee, YWCA.
