Biography:

Sonya Szabo Reynolds performs frequently as both solo and collaborative artist. On the piano faculty at Xavier University in Cincinnati since 1993, her repeat appearances with recognized recital series establish her as one of the most active and respected pianists in the region.

Sonya received her Master and Bachelor degrees in piano from the University of Michigan School of Music, where she graduated with high honors and was inducted into the national music honors society Pi Kappa Lambda. Her teachers have included Louis Nagel, Eugene Bossart and Nancy Arganbright Weekly. Additional study took place at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria where she studied with German pianist Carl Seemann.

Sonya is President of Western District OMTA (Ohio Music Teachers Association) and board member of OMTA, as well as member of MTNA. Additionally, she serves as Xavier University's consultant for the keyboard program at Pleasant Ridge Montessori School in Cincinnati and is board member of Dayton Music Club.

In addition to teaching and performing, Sonya edited the first English language translation of Bohumil Fidler’s My Life and Memories, published in 2008 by The Dvorak Society for Czech and Slovak Music in London (Bohumil Fidler was Sonya’s great grandfather, a composer, choirmaster, choral director and friend of Antonin Dvorak’s). Her continued interest in Czech music is reflected in her regular columns, “From the New World”, published in the Dvorak Society’s quarterly newsletters.
