Biography:

A native of Cleveland, Professor Fontana served as Department Chair 1975–1984 and Director of the Scholars Program 1973–1976. He received The Bishop Fenwick Award for Outstanding Teaching in 1986. Fontana serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Mediterranean Studies and has published widely in journals such as Victorian Poetry, Philosophy and Literature, the Journal of Pre-Raphaelite Studies, the Dickens Quarterly, the Walt Whitman Quarterly Review, Dickinson Studies, Forum Italicum, Philological Quarterly, and New Orleans Review. In the Xavier Rome program, he regularly teaches a course in Transgressive Texts and Alternate Publics.
