Biography:

Dr. White teaches an array of courses including: Irish Politics, International Relations, Irish Political Culture, the Politics of War and Peace, U.S. Foreign Policy, and Irish Historical Sociology. This last class is taught as part of the Xavier Summer Study Abroad Program in Ireland that Dr. White founded. For his efforts, White has won the Sigma Alpha Nu Award as Teacher of the Year on Xavier’s campus and has been nominated for the Carnegie National Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. White’s more than forty publications have focused mostly on Irish politics and have appeared in Éire-Ireland, New Hibernian Review, Irish Journal of Sociology, Études Irlandaises, Irish Journal of Public Policy, Irish Studies in International Affairs, and in a number of edited collections. Dr. White’s research has also appeared in journals in the fields of Comparative Politics and International Relations including The European Legacy, Commonwealth and Comparative Politics, Peace Review, International Journal on World Peace, and International Studies Perspectives. Dr. White has also edited a forthcoming volume, Lessons from the Northern Ireland Peace Process, which will appear in 2013 published by the University of Wisconsin Press.  In addition, Dr. White has published twenty-five book reviews and presented nearly seventy papers at conferences. He has been awarded three major external grants from the Irish American Cultural Institute, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Foundation, and the Moore Institute at the National University of Ireland-Galway. Dr. White has been a visiting faculty member at the University of Missouri and the National University of Ireland-Galway twice.  He was also served two terms as the Social Science Representative for the American Conference for Irish Studies.  White has been named by the Irish Voice as one of the top 100 Irish educators in the United States.
