The Cintas Institute for Business Ethics at Xavier was created in the Fall of 2001, as an outgrowth of the Williams College of Business' Strategic Plan. Paul Fiorelli, JD, MBA was named as the Institute's first Director. The goal of the Institute are to:

  1. help the Williams College of Business faculty increase their exposure and confidence in the areas of business ethics and social responsibility
  2. enable graduate and undergraduate students to have increased moral courage to do "the hard right, as opposed to the easy wrong"
  3. have the Institute act as a resource for the local, regional and national business communities. The Institute’s mission is, "To help students and other Xavier stakeholders recognize and deal with ethical and values-related issues in the workplace"

Professor Fiorelli was selected as one of four Supreme Court Fellows to work in Washington, D.C. between August 1998 and August of 1999. He was staffed to the United States Sentencing Comission and conducted research and training on corporate ethics programs. During his year in Washington, Professor Fiorelli received the Justice Thomas Clark, distinguised Fellow Award from Chief Justice Rehnquist. He currently serves as one of sixteen people on the Ad Hoc Advisory Group regarding organizations from the United States Sentencing Commission. I would like to thank the Cintas Corporation, and the Kohlhepp and Farmer families for their generous support of our business ethics activities.  This support will enable the newly renamed Cintas Institute for Business Ethics at Xavier to be known as the preeminent institute for the study and propagation of business ethics. As an initial step, we will further integrate ethics throughout our business curriculum.  These ethics related initiatives are consistent with the mission statements of the university, college and the spirit of Jesuit education.
